Somedays I feel like a major loner. I’m in my head all day. I feel anxiety in my body and I just don’t feel like interacting with anyone. When I leave my house, I put my headphones on and get lost in the music while I walk around aimlessly in the beautiful streets of NYC. In a city of about 7 million people. It’s not hard at all to feel lonely. I’ve discovered a cure for this. Street photography has the power to cure your loneliness.
How Street Photography Will Cure Your Loneliness
It will force you to get out of the house and into the streets.
I’ve made it a priority in my life to spend at least an hour a day walking around my city and making pictures. This forces me to stop being a loner and get out of the house. While i’m out of the house, I’ll start making photos of random things, next thing you know, I have people posing for me and I’m getting myself into all sorts of interactions. Complimenting people on their clothes, sharing candid moments with strangers all the while getting better with my photography. Walking around your city for at least an hour a day in the pursuit of capturing some street photography will cure your loneliness.
It will force you to interact with people
Sure, I’ve had those loner days where I spend the whole day stuck in my head not talking to anyone. With street photography, this becomes hard to do. If you make yourself get out of the house for at least an hour a day to make some street photos, you will end up interacting with people. Shoot someone’s photo and let them catch you.
Lots of ways to proceed forward with that. You can either smile at them and wave, give them a little head nod and wink or act like nothing happened. In this case, I acted like nothing happened and we went our separate ways. Doing street photography will cure your loneliness by putting you into situations with people where you can chose to interact or be invisible (interact btw…).
Street Photography Will Get You Out Of Your Head
Once you’re in momentum, you’re not even thinking anymore. Your mind is blank. All you’re focusing on is getting that shot, finding that candid moment, capturing the decisive moment. You’ll be in flow. You’ll be so damn happy and enthralled by what you’re doing that you will not have a chance to think about being lonely. You are one with the universe at this point. You’re one with your environment. You’re gliding around the streets capturing beautiful moments. What does it even mean to be lonely?
Street photography when done right will get you out of your head. Street photography will capture your mind, possess your thoughts and control your actions. You’ll go out and shoot amazing photographs of your streets and the whole time loneliness would be the last thing on your mind. Doing street photography will cure your loneliness because you won’t have time to dwell on it. You’ll be too busy creating shots that will last through the ages.
Street photography will cure your loneliness. It’s as simple as that. Get your camera, get out of the house and start doing some street photography. Within no time at all, you’ll be snapping photos of random things, complimenting random strangers, having people ask you if you’re a photographer and most importantly it will cure your loneliness. Don’t take my word for it, try it. If it doesn’t work and you’re still lonely. Send me a quick email telling me what happened. I’ll be your friend 😆
